Executive Council

The Executive Council consists of 5 elected officers and all of the committee chair appointments. Its purpose is to handle the strategic direction and managergial oversight of the local chapter. The EC enforces and improves our governing rules, plans of action, and approves budgets at an organizational and committee level, as well as ensuring individual tasks and responibilities under their positions are upheld and completed.

Early DC ACM History:

Records indicate that a committee for the formation of the Washington, D.C. Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery came together in February 1958 that included Lowell McClung (JHU-APL), Saul Gass (IBM), Joseph Wegstein (NBS), Elizabeth Cuthill (DTMB); and William Orchard-Hays (C-E-I-R Inc.). The first organizational meeting was called in May, 1958. Approximately 75 persons attended a presentation by Richard Hamming, President of the National ACM, on “Computers of the Future,” and commissioned a Bylaws Committee and Officers Pro Tempore.

Over the years, the notable accomplishments of this chapter have included annual Technical Symposiums, dozens of Special Interest Groups, and the establishment of the Professional Development Seminars.
